COMMERCIAL SWING GATE SPECIFICATIONS FOR USE WITH FAAC 400 SERIES OPERATORS
SCOPE
The purpose of this document is to describe in detail the standard specifications of a Gate Packages Unlimited Custom Gate system. The standard shapes and styles of gates can be found below however almost any design, shape or size your client desires can be built by consulting with the factory. Material specifications are below.
GATE
- Gate shall be bi parting or single swing welded aluminum swing gate. This specification is for a _______ -________ opening size. Actual gate leaf size will be determined by field measurements between the gateposts. Standard opening between bi-parting gates is 2.
- Standard heights are 5 on the sides. Arch top gates have a standard 6.5 center height (see styles).
- Chain link security gates can be built to the architects specifications.
FOR CUSTOM DECORATIVE SWING GATES:
- Standard pickets are of 1 x 1 x .062 aluminum 6063-T52 pickets placed on 6 centers.
- Two horizontal rails of 2 x 1 x 1/8 6063 T5 aluminum shall be punched with one inch square holes on 6 centers. The mid horizontal rails shall be welded in a position 6 below the top rail and 6 above the bottom rail. Optionally, decorative cast aluminum circles may be welded between the rails and pickets. The top rail, with gates that do not have optional spear points, is constructed of 1 x 2 x 1/8 6063-T52 rectangular aluminum tubing. If the gates are to be built with the spear point option, the top rail shall be constructed of 2 x 1 x 1/8 6063 T5 aluminum channel that is punched on 6 centers to accommodate the passing through of the 1 pickets. The top of the optional spear point shall be 6 above the top rail
- The gates bottom frame rail shall be constructed of 2 x 3 x 1/8 6063-T52 aluminum tubing. One _ plate shall be welded to the bottom rail on each side of the gate to strengthen the operator attachment point.
- Uprights on each side of the gate shall be constructed of 2 x 2 x 1/8 6063-T52 aluminum tubing. The connecting corner welds shall be beveled and ground smooth.
- The gates shall be wiped smooth to prepare surface for priming. Gates are sprayed with Duponts Nason 491-17 acid etch primer and allowed to dry. Flexbon millennium edition latex paint is then applied as a finish coat. Color selection is available at www.flexbon.com.
GATEPOST (see drawing)
- Posts (one per gate leaf) shall be constructed of 4 x 4 x _ steel, primed and painted to match gates.
- The hinges shall be U.S. made heavy-duty barrel hinges with ball bearings and grease fittings. The bottom hinge shall be fitted with a 1 sag adjustment bolt and nuts.
- The post shall be constructed with the rear operator bracket for a FAAC 400 operator welded in the proper position.
- Optionally, brackets can be welded to the post to allow mounting of the FAAC 450 MPS control panel. Please specify the size of the control panel selected and on which gate post (right or left) the panel is to be mounted.
- The center of the rear operator bracket shall align with the center of the 2 x 3 bottom rail.
- Adjustable positive stops for both the opened and closed position shall be welded to the post assembly. The positive stops shall align with the top hinge plate and not touch the gate.
- Posts shall be sand blasted to white metal after welding.
- Priming and painting specification is the same as for the gates (see above.) Posts are painted to match color of the gates.
- Please specify with order if the gates are to swing in toward the property or out toward the road
- Please specify for single swing gates the side of the driveway the gatepost should be mounted (right or left) from the perspective of standing outside of the property looking in.

FAAC 400 CBACR OPERATORS AND FAAC 450 MPS CONTROL PANEL
- Gate operators shall be hydraulically powered, continuous duty, UL 325 approved, rapid swing (12 seconds to 90 degrees), hydraulically locking in both opened and closed positions. Operators provided shall be FAAC 400 CBACR. Please specify voltage (115 or 230 VAC). Amperage per operator shall not exceed 3 amps run current.
- Control panel shall be UL approved and provide a choice of 5 modes of operation. Control panel shall be provided in 14 x 16 UL approved fiberglass box with large terminal strips, cut-off switch, 110 VAC 2 gang accessory receptacle, test button. Box shall have room for installation of loop detectors and other safety devices. Provision shall be made to mount control panel to either gate post or masonry wall/column.
- Gate operator shall have adjustable hydraulic pressure to insure safety.
- All gate operators shall be directly mounted to post. All gate operators, regardless of direction of swing (inside or outside) shall be mounted on the interior of the perimeter of the propertys fence/gate.
- To prevent tail-gating on the entrance lane(s), a 5 x 8 stop/close loop with 4 loops of THHN 14 gauge wire shall be either saw cut into the existing pavement or installed in a pre-fabricated _ conduit. All points of the loop shall be more than 3 away from the fully opened position of the gate. All wire leading from the loop to the loop detector mounted inside the control box shall be twisted with a minimum of 6 turns per running foot. This loop, one per gate/lane, shall be connected a Diablo loop detector. The function of this loop is as follows: when a vehicle accesses the gate with proper authorization, passes through the gate and is detected by the loop, the loop detector shall send a signal to the gate controller to stop motion (for instance at 60 degrees open). As soon as the vehicle passes past the loop and is no longer sensed by the loop detector, the detector shall send a signal to the gate controller to immediately close the gates.
- To allow free exit, a free exit loop shall be installed _________ feet prior to the exit gate. The loop detector will sense a vehicle crossing the free exit loop and send a signal to the gate controller to open the gate.
- For safety and to prevent the gates from closing on an exiting vehicle, two loops shall be installed 3 prior to the exit gate closed position and 3 after the fully opened position of the exit gates. The two loops shall be wired in series in the control box to each other. If the loop detector senses the presence of a vehicle within the arc of the exit gates, it will prevent the gates from closing on the vehicle. All operators on the exit gate shall be directly connected to the gatepost on the inside of the perimeter of the property.
- For pedestrian safety, and to comply with provisions of UL 325, a set of sender/receiver UL 325 approved photo beams shall be installed on the gateposts on the side of the post opposite the direction of swing. Breaking the photo beams circuit during closing by a vehicle or a pedestrian will result in a stopping and reversing action to re-open the gates. Optionally, the FAAC 450 MPS control panel may be wired to a pedestrian exit button for pedestrian exit through the drive gate. By activating this button, only one leaf of a bi-parting gate will open, preventing vehicles from using the gate at the same time as a pedestrian.

- ALL FAAC OPERATORS ARE PROTECTED FROM VANDALISM SINCE THE OPERATORS ARE LOCATED ON THE INSIDE OF THE PROPERTY, NO MATTER IF THE GATES SWING IN OR OUT. ARTICULATING ARM OPERATORS MUST BE LOCATED OUTSIDE THE FENCED AREA FOR OUTWARD SWINGING GATES MAKING THEM DANGEROUS, SUBJECT TO VANDALISM AND AN EYESORE.
- FAAC 400 OPERATORS, WHEN USED WITH THE EXCLUSIVE GPU POST SYSTEM, CONNECT TO THE BOTTOM RAIL OF THE GATE. ARTICULATING ARMS CONNECT HIGHER ON THE GATE, LEADING TO AN UNSIGHTLY BRACKET STRADDLING THE PICKETS THAT PUTS UNDUE STRESS ON THE GATE PICKETS.
